Dear friends in Spain:

 

With growing concern we have been observing the increasing spread that the news of our existence is attaining in that historic country of Europe.

 

We do not voice this fear on account of any hypothetical disturbances it might cause my brothers, since at present our stays in that nation are sporadic and of short duration.

 

But we have noted with sadness that our earlier exhortations have not been given their due weight. We assure you, and this is not a mere subjective impression, that the disturbances which adherence -today- to our testimony, our thought and our own science may cause you can be described, without fear of overstating them, as very serious. The culture of a social network in a state of unharmonious development cannot be deeply violated by the insertion of foreign intellectual grafts without great distortions within it.

 

Neither our philosophy, nor our scientific and technical principles, nor our social fabric can, at this historical stage of Earth, serve you as models towards which to orient your own patterns of civilization. If you do not accept this principle, on weighing the advantages obtained and comparing them with the damage caused, you would find a balance in favour of the latter.

 

The mirage of beings of galactic origin redeeming earthly humanity from the miseries inherent in its own evolution can unleash in your brothers emotional mechanisms that are very difficult to control. That is why we have systematically refused, and our stance on this point will become even more rigid if possible, to offer you objective data that fully support our truth, to hand you absolute proofs that vouch for our testimony, or to clarify concepts that appear vague in our writings. In this way we prevent the information spread among a few OEMMII (MEN) of Earth from reaching a dangerous threshold of credibility.

 

We cannot, therefore, offer you the arguments that would enable you to give positive sanction to the existence -hypothetical for you- of these travellers from Ummo.

 

We cannot but congratulate those of you who, despite reading our reports, have maintained your independence of judgement, adopting towards us a fair and courageous critical attitude, rationally attacking our own version by means of an analytical and systematic rational exploration whenever it clashed with the theories now in force on this solid star.

 

Yet we are also moved, and an irrepressible affection arises in us, towards those few brothers of yours who, guided more by their most noble feelings than by a process of logical rationalization, have felt imperiously impelled to admire us, even trying to assimilate our ideas as far as possible. That is why it is all the more painful for us to be obliged to challenge their mistaken behaviour with gentle dissuasion.

 

There exist on Earth ideals that can substitute for ours, which you may embrace without fear and with well-founded hope. Any other line of adherence would plunge you into an anguishing labyrinth, only to crash at the end against a mirror reflecting, with deceptive glints, the image of a utopia. Let your brothers on Earth regard as our advice such things as:

 

THE ELABORATION OF A MORE OBJECTIVE EPISTEMOLOGY, THE ACCEPTANCE OF CONDUCT ENLIGHTENED BY A LOFTY SOCIAL MORALITY, THE REJECTION OF THOSE FACTORS THAT INHIBIT IDEOLOGICAL AND SCIENTIFIC PROGRESS, THE CAREFUL STUDY OF YOUR SOCIAL ECOBIOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK IN PRIORITY OVER OTHER RESEARCH, THE DEFENCE OF SOCIAL JUSTICE FAR ABOVE THE PRINCIPLES OF ORDER, COURAGEOUS DEDICATION TO A CAUSE THAT EACH MAN'S CONSCIENCE INDICATES AS THE MOST CAPABLE OF SATISFYING THE IDEALS OF A SOCIAL NETWORK FREED FROM THE OPPRESSION OF A MINORITY OVER THE JUST INTERESTS OF OTHERS, THE ACCEPTANCE OF A TELEOLOGY THAT POSTULATES A PRINCIPLE OF CAUSALITY IN THE COSMOS; DEEP RESPECT FOR THE MENTAL CONCEPTIONS OF OTHER OEMMII EVEN IF YOU JUDGE THEM MISTAKEN....

 

You may abide by them if you desire a true evolution of the biosphere of Earth, but such exhortations were already formulated before by brothers of yours on Earth of sublime honesty and illustrious intelligence. We merely point out their agreement with our thought.

 

This preamble may lead you to think that we are trying to coerce you into not investigating us, or you may suspect that inviting you not to share our ideas and advising great reserve is a subtle coercive ploy -because it is enticing- to make you apply yourselves even more to immersing yourselves in them. You would thus conclude that our secretive conduct is nothing but a cunning, psychologically studied stratagem to win followers seduced by esotericism and mystery.

 

We cannot prevent you from accepting this sophism, which for us is unjust and bitter. But consider that, if it were so, the facts by themselves refute such a postulate. Since the news spread we have restricted our contacts. Any of you who takes the trouble to make even a superficial study will not be able to prove to us that we have created any group of co-religionists, much less a “mass opinion”; rather, we have firmly stifled precisely any attempt in that direction, making sure that the various men of Earth scattered over a few countries did not get to know one another. That very country, SPAIN, is an exception owing to circumstances known to you, but you yourselves are witnesses that our flow of information has been weakening precisely in inverse proportion to the alarming spread of such news.

 

It cannot seriously be maintained that we are trying to recruit “followers” among the OEMII of EARTH, but naturally you are free to think and act as you wish. You will never be able to accuse us of having seriously violated that freedom, which is sacred to us. At most, in our relations we have made requests of you that naturally did not compromise you with respect to your conscience or to the respective laws of your countries.

But just as you are free to act with regard to our presence among you -a freedom that authorizes you to use our reports in any way, to carry out surveys and investigations, even to attack us- so are we free, in the exercise of our own right of self-defence, to wrap ourselves in a “smoke screen”, suspending every sign that might identify us, cancelling postal dispatches as we did long ago with telephone conversations, after an incident involving a brother of mine in the United States of America.

 

This is the only valid and ethical balance in our own relations with men of Earth, in the absence of an instrument -impossible for the time being- that would officially regulate a mutual alliance. Needless to point out to you the simplicity of the procedures we would choose to convince the whole of humanity on Earth, in case of danger, that our existence among its inhabitants is a “fallacy.” All the informative letters we have written to you have been carefully studied for such an emergency. If we have been obliged to introduce elements of doubt, it has not been in order to deceive you (we can assure you that the overall body of information accessible to you is authentic and pure) but in anticipation of the future possibility of being obliged to introduce a legitimate confusion that would neutralize any serious attempt to make people seriously aware, on a macrosocial scale, that we are in your biosphere.

 

MEN OF EARTH: We want you to be aware once and for all of our real objective. We have sent to a few brothers of yours of more open mind, distributed among several countries, so that they may keep them as unequivocal future PROOF of our stay on a journey of exploration and analysis of this planet, some reports that summarize certain aspects of our culture. The recipients must be convinced that they are simple guardians, chosen at random among people disposed to respect them.

 

But this does not authorize them to propagate our principles as substitutes for, or even as complements to, those that govern among Earth people. You are obliged to follow your own evolution faithfully, to respect your native laws, and if the painful dilemma should even arise of having to choose, in case of conflict, between your own fellow countrymen and us, beings foreign to the corticosphere of the solidified star Earth, you must without hesitating an instant be faithful to your own. We have ample non-violent deterrent means to defend ourselves should such attacks be unjust, and we would never tolerate disgracing a single man of Earth by making him a traitor to those who begot him.

 

Forgive us, friends, if we insist repeatedly on the terms on which our mutual relations are based.

 

We have made contact with some men of Earth, aware that we can pass unnoticed mingled among them, in a programme intended to send our mother planet Ummo extensive information on geological, biological, astronomical and sociohuman aspects of this solid star. These men of the visited planet will not be distorted in their evolutionary process, and this not by a gracious concession on our part, but by virtue of universal moral laws that we do not wish to infringe. They are free to make arbitrary use of such reports, even though we have outlined our advice to them on the matter. They are free to keep them in secrecy, or to plan a relentless persecution against us if they mistakenly judge us a danger.

 

But if, instead of becoming prudent and passive depositaries, they engage in any conduct that may have macrosocial repercussions on the rest of the terrestrial sociohuman Network, the tacit alliance that we have extended on our own initiative between you and my brothers will have been broken. Silence and secrecy will have replaced these careful leaks of information, and we will complement this measure by injecting into the Earth media sufficient doses of disturbing information so that the whole of the retrospectively accumulated documentation will appear, in the eyes of experts and laymen, devoid of probative value, discrediting it in short.

 

This is our genuine stance, which we know to be sincere. If you prefer to believe that behind it lie dark designs, or sinister plans of a hypothetical group whose final objectives are immoral and whose origin may be terrestrial or extraterrestrial, you are naturally free to do so. On this point it is impossible for us to dissuade you without harming our own legitimate defence. If you consider that the governments of Earth should harass us because we constitute a serious risk -one is already doing so with a great dose of naivety- do so with complete peace of mind. For our part, we are sure that you will not be able to show us a single proof that we have done any harm to our noble hosts on Earth.
